| Robert G. Gire, 67, of Douds, died at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in an industrial accident at Douds Stone, Inc. rock mine, rural Hedrick. He was born July 28, 1941 at Kilbourn to Emery R. and Marie Huisman Gire. He married Sandra K. Balmer Dec. 28, 1968 at Stockport. Bob graduated from Douds High School in 1960, served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam during the Viet Nam War and lived his life in the Douds community. He was maintenance supervisor for Douds Stone, Inc.,his life-long employer. Bob was a member of John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion,Douds, a long-time member and former Chief of the Douds Fire Department, and was active in Douds Field Day and Douds Community Club. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Lorra Gire of Ottumwa, Lisa Hall of Altoona and Nichole Dennis of Mount Pleasant; a son, Arthur Gire of Douds; five grandchildren; and a brother, William Gire and wife, Louise of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, John Laughlin; and a brother, Stanley Bud Gire. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, in Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Revs. Ann Donat, Phil Campbell and David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Mt.
